Australia Tour – Australian Tourist Attractions

Australia Tourism

A trip to Australia from the UK is a challenge for European tourists let alone Silver Surfers – it is a long way even with a stopover. Although direct flights are now available to Perth from the UK. Singapore Airlines makes the long haul comfortable and others recommend Emirates too! Bear in mind that visas are required for visitors. Australia Tourism faces a challenge to encourage visitors to contemplate such a long trip. But hey … it is certainly worth it.

So much to see on a trip to Australia! Here is a selection of Australian Tourist Attractions with videos on the Melbourne area, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Australia surprises on so many levels!

Melbourne Victoria

Melbourne is the southernmost city on mainland Australia in the state of Victoria. Cosmopolitan Melbourne (and local area) is a really cool city with a fabulous culture, amazing buildings, botanic gardens, museums, seascapes, sandy beaches, vineyards and so much more. Be surprised by the friendly atmosphere, cafe culture and moderate temperatures. Transport links around the city are amazing, and even on busy trams people readily offer seats (take notice UK citizens).

The countryside is surprisingly verdant with amazing views.

Melbourne Weather

The weather in Melbourne is unusual! The locals say you can enjoy the 4 seasons in a day! In February / March (late summer / early autumn) we experienced hot sunny days, showers, grey skies – a mixed bag! But generally, the temperature is warm to hot.

Great Ocean Road Tour

This is an amazing scenic tour drive with magnificent views along the Victoria coast. The Great Ocen Road is an Australian National Heritage listed 243-kilometre stretch between Torquay and Allansford. Amazing landscapes, rock formations and wild-life will thrill you. See the 12 Apostles before they disappear – 8 stacks remain to marvel at! Surf crashes in along long sandy beaches and is a paradise for surfers.

Brisbane Points of Interest

After a 2 1/2 hour flight from Melbourne to Brisbane you arrive in Queensland. Even in March, the temperature is in the high 30 degrees! We enjoyed the city museums, South Bank (and beach) and the beautiful Roma Street Parkland. Again transport links are good in the city – especially the ferry services on the Brisbane river. There are many shopping malls dotted around the city and suburbs.

Australia Gold Coast

Home to Surfer’s delight! Long sandy beaches with stunning surf. Patrolled and safe (saw no sharks but they must be along the coast. A modern vibrant city with high rise all around. We dined fabulously at the Four Winds 360° restaurant, soaring above the Gold Coast with breathtaking views from the spectacular rooftop location at the Crowne Plaza Surfers.Paradise.

Noosa and Noosa Heads

Up the north along the coast from Brisbane is the beautiful resort of Noosa (on the river) and Noosa Heads at the estuary head. A lovely resort with splendid hotels, restaurants and shops. A sunset tour from Noosa to Noosa Heads is a must. Fabulous houses line the river banks, and make you very envious. At Noosa Heads there is a magnificent long sandy beach, and up-market shops, bars and restaurants just a walk from the beach.
